Village 'Adultery'

There is a village of 50 couples. Every man in the village has been unfaithful to his wife. Every woman will know when a man other than her husband has committed adultery. The rule of the village - if a woman knows her husband has been unfaithful, then she must kill him that very night itself. Life goes on in Village Adultery and one day, the queen, who always tells the truth, announces that at least one husband in the village has committed adultery. Does this change anything in the village? You would need to explain clearly what happens if anything at all changes in Village Adultery.

Nothing needs to change unless of course it is the Queen's husband who is the adulterer, which means that she ought to kill him that night. So, essentially there will be anarchy along with adultery in the village!

let us approach this problem step wise...

suppose there was only 1 adulterer, his wife would kill him on day 1 itself!

if 2, look from the wife's perspective.

she knows that there is one adulterer. but since no one dies on day one she can be sure that there is one more and it could be none else than her husband as every one else is clean. so an day 2 both the wives will kill their husbands.

similarly if there were 3 adulteres they will die by day 3.

and so on till 50.
each wife waits till 49th day to see if someone dies. And of course no one will die.
so on the 50th day all the wives realise tht their husband is an adultrer too and would kill their men on 50th night!
should be right i guess!

Anonymous,
Sorry that reasoning is not correct. The Queen's husband has nothing to do with this as she is not from that village.

Balaji,
Thats correct! Good reasoning and logical analysis. This is a very common puzzle and there are a ton of variations tto this. Keep up the good work!

P.S: Since you put Balaji.tk, I did not know you were the same, I thought you were trying to distinguish it from balaji, who had already answered on the blog. Anyways, I will update it.

This puzzle is SOLVED!
